European Art Competition!

As part of the school's art competition, we were challenged to create a piece, based on the style of a European artist.  Since we were also focusing on the celebration of Harvest at the time, we decided to create our own version of Charles Angrand's 'The Harvesters'.  Angrand was an artist from France, famous for his use of Pointillism. Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of colour are applied in patterns to form an image.  You can see our winning entries outside the Parents' Room, in the foyer!

P3B Round-up. Some of our highlights so far...

Well time seems to be flying by in Primary 3b! The children have all begun to settle well into their new surroundings in Room 8a, especially as it has been a change of scenery for most of Primary 3b, coming along from the other end of the school.  It has also been a bit of a change for Mr. Niven, moving to Primary 3 from upstairs in Primary 5/6 but he’s settling well into his new room too. J

It has been an exciting time so far in Primary 3b, with the children striking-up new friendships with their new class-mates who were in different rooms last year; as well as building on existing friendships.  We were very lucky in Room 8a as it was our job to lead the school’s Harvest Festival celebrations, along with Primary 3a and Primary 2/3.  This was a great opportunity to learn all about harvest and why many people celebrate this special time of year. This culminated in leading a whole-school assembly, where we were delighted to showcase what we had been learning in front of our families, friends and special guests, including Elizabeth from the Renfrewshire Foodbank and our School Chaplain Mr. Steell.

As part of our Harvest Festival celebrations, we collected everyone’s food donations from the across the whole school, to give to the Renfrewshire Foodbank, to help people in our local community.  Thank you very much to everyone who donated - your kindness and generosity really is very appreciated.  As we said in our assembly: “Alone we gave a little but together we gave a lot!”  As well as doing our bit to help people in our local community, we were also thinking about our friends around the world during Harvest time, especially in Malawi, where they are currently facing their worst food shortage in many years, due to a combination of floods and drought which has devastated crops, leaving many families without enough food.  It was for this reason, that we decided upon Mary’s Meals as our chosen charity.  Through their school feeding programme, Mary’s Meals currently reaches 814,000 Malawian children with a daily nutritious meal in school. Another highlight of the session so far was the Open Evening, where the children enjoyed showing their parents and families around our class and having a look at some of the things we have been doing so far.  The children particularly enjoyed seeing themselves on the SMART Board’s ‘big screen’, in the video we made using iMovie.
